Overnight, winter storm Hercules hit us here in western New York.
It’s not done with us yet. But I thought I’d post some pictures now. These are all off my phone, because it was handy.
This was the scene this morning, after the second round of shoveling the driveway.

It doesn’t feel any different.
The first day of January is always a bit of a slap in the face. It’s always so sudden to me. Maybe because November and December are always really stressful, what with the holidays, one very important professional meeting, the onset of winter, and wrapping up my big introductory geology class.

Not in myself, but through my son, who was given the diagnosis of PDD-NOS a few years back. His autism is considered ‘high-functioning,’ which poses all sorts of challenges.
You’d think it’d be ‘better’ than being ‘severely’ autistic, but the problem is with high-functioning, his autism is invisible. When the stims and other autistic tendencies arise from an otherwise ‘normal’ kid, eyebrows are raised and sometimes we get scowled at in the I-could-raise-your-kid-better sort of way.Continue reading “The Gifts of Autism”
