Hercules – Photos

Overnight, winter storm Hercules hit us here in western New York.

It’s not done with us yet. But I thought I’d post some pictures now. These are all off my phone, because it was handy.

This was the scene this morning, after the second round of shoveling the driveway.

Yes, I said shoveling. We have a snow thrower. It chose this morning to die. My husband and I shoveled a foot of snow together in the morning, then I shoveled another 3 or so inches in the afternoon.

At the end of the driveway, we have a few reflectors so we can find our driveway. They’re a little buried now.

The poles these reflectors are on are about 3 feet tall.

Later in the day, we had to drive into Rochester (about 40 miles) for a doctor’s appointment. It was probably not our smartest move, but we did it anyway. The drive into Rochester was fine, but getting home took a long, long time.

We had frost inside the windshield. The temperatures were dropping into the single digits!

By the time it was dark, the roads had become a skating rink.

The bright lights there are a state trooper. The headlights to the trooper's left is a car buried in the median.

Suffice it to say, we were glad when we made it home.

And, yay! there’s more snow in the forecast for overnight. Looks like we get to do the whole thing over in the morning… Well, minus the doctor part.

How’s the weather where you are?

I hope you all stay safe, and the power stays on. We’ve had a lot of winter weather here on the east coast of Canada, too. Not sure where we are going to put all this white stuff!

Wow! A 40 mile ride must have not been fun! Our two-day snowstorm finished up this morning. While parts of our state got about 24″ of snow (north shore and south shore) we were lucky and only got about 8″ or so. And, my snow blower did not die on me so I had a relatively easy time of it today. Great photos!

Happily, my husband was able to fix the snow thrower this morning, after we got another foot of snow over night. Our driveway is a little like the trench on the Death Star right now…

The snow in Manhattan was gorgeous Thursday night and early Friday morning, but now is getting dirty and icy. Still, it is easier for us with subways and good walking conditions. I remember living in the suburbs and waiting for the plow to come clear my driveway!
