As per regulation, we visited the beach today. There’s always good things to see there….

Yesterday, we visited the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.

Gators and other crocodylians aren’t the only archosaurs there. There’s a ton of local bird species as well.
The Alligator Farm is a special place for us, as it is the site of my husband’s and my third date – the date that clinched the deal, 14+ years ago. This time we brought our son.Continue reading “Archosaurs Galore!”
I think I just had one of the more entertaining Twitter conversations ever. I have to share.
It started with me whining a bit, because I can:
I really ought to do some laundry. Only I don’t want to.

.@paleololigo When young, I was told I’d learn to pick my battles as I got older. Didn’t know choice would be dirty laundry vs dirty dishes.

We live rurally, so we do a few rural things. One of those things is to have chickens. It’s fabulous to always have fresh eggs to eat!
For grins, my husband decided to incubate a bunch of eggs to see what we’d get. Continue reading “A Chicksplosion!”
We went to NYC last week.
We went specifically to see Devo in concert, which we succeeded in doing!

It was a fun experience for two middle-agers and a nine-year-old.
But we did so many other things, that I nearly forgot that we went to see Devo in the first place.Continue reading “What We Did on Our NYC Vacation”
One of the benefits of living rurally is the option to have the occasional bonfire.
So we had one, over the Memorial Day weekend.Continue reading “The Bonfire”
Today was the 2014 Special Olympic event for my son. Last year was his first experience. I could only hope that this year’s would be just as good.
Unlike last year, it was a dismal day. Raining (hard) and in the 50’s.

This didn’t curb anyone’s enthusiasm though.Continue reading “Special Olympics – Even Specialer Than Last Year”
So this morning this video was posted on Facebook. The instructor here, my friend Maestro Sean Hayes, invited two of his students to spar with him.
I loved watching this. It reminded me of something important to me – a long-term goal I have, that while seems so remote, distant, and impossible, has kept me working toward improving my physical health.Continue reading “Remembering Your Goals”
It’s mid-March. The official start of spring is but a few days away. (Though I’ll believe it when I see it.)
I want it to be spring – and summer – pretty badly. I don’t think there’s enough lotion in the world to make my poor dry skin feel good again. I welcome humidity. And thunderstorms. And mud.
In a burst of what may be misguided optimism, I decided to start some seeds last night. Continue reading “Leafy Tuesday – Starting Seeds”
March is half over. Spring is (nominally) in the near future (though with the chilly temperatures, it’s hard to imagine).
I have no memory of January. I don’t know where February went. I know I’ve been doing things, because the evidence is all around me. I’ve been teaching, and doing research. Running the lab as always.Continue reading “Why is February So Miserable?”
