Special Olympics – Even Specialer Than Last Year

Today was the 2014 Special Olympic event for my son. Last year was his first experience. I could only hope that this year’s would be just as good.

Unlike last year, it was a dismal day. Raining (hard) and in the 50’s.

For a moment, the rain stopped.

This didn’t curb anyone’s enthusiasm though.

The Marion High School band put on a great show, with a nod to the Beatles and James Bond.

The band plays 'Live and Let Die.'

Then came my son’s school.

The torch came next, complete with police escort.

All smiles!

And with the lighting of the cauldron, the games could begin!

Let the games begin!

The games commenced with the over-arching theme of the Special Olympics:

“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

...be brave in the attempt.
…be brave in the attempt.

Truly words to live by.

This photo says it all about the success of the day.

We ended the day with a little fun in the Olympic Village.

And waiting in eager anticipation for next year!
