Prompt – Tell us about your favourite costume from childhood.

My memories of this are vague, of course.
One year, back when I was young enough to still be printing on the paper with the middle dashed line, I was asked at school to write about what I wanted to be for Halloween.

I wrote about how I wanted to be a ‘Dragen’ but my mom wouldn’t let me.
Mom was none too pleased with me. She still reminds me of this from time to time.
The good news is, my clever ploy worked. The next year I was a dragon, complete with long tail and hefty snout. I think it was purple and green. The tail hung off my back by suspenders of some fashion. The snout was made of a plastic bottle, cut to shape and covered with felt.
If I remember correctly.
I enjoyed the costumes my mother made for me through school. I was lots of things over the years, including an astronaut and a bottle of glue. There was that bunny costume.
I try to do the same for my son. He prefers superheros and movie characters costumes for which are often easier to buy than to make. But in a pinch we always have our 14th century garb and go trick-or-treating as medieval knights.

I hope when he gets older he appreciates the home-made costumes I’ve made for him like I appreciate the ones my mother made for me. But even if he doesn’t, I’ll at least know we had fun.
