The Horror!

Prompt – Do you enjoy being scared such as watching horror movies or reading scary books?

——

No.

Let me elaborate a little, perhaps.

I don’t go out of my way to watch horror movies or read scary books, but I do enjoy psychological thrillers and I have gone on “Nightmare on Elm Street” binges. I read “The Stand” by Stephen King and loved it, despite being terrified every time I sneezed for a full year. From time to time I’ll go into a haunted house and get the crap scared out of me.

It’s not so much that I’m afraid of being scared, I just choose carefully when I want to have an adrenaline rush.

Living with anxiety, I have a low-level sense of terror essentially all day, every day. I avoid getting ramped up even higher if I can. That way, when I really do need to respond to a frightening situation, I’ll have my wits about me.

Or at least that’s what I’d like to think would happen.
