Opti-pessimism

National Blog Posting Month – February 2014 – Perspective

Prompt – Do you think you are more of an optimist or a pessimist?

——

Um.

Yes.

But seriously, it depends upon the day and the situation.

I try to be a realist.

I always assume that things won’t work out the way I had planned, so that might make me a pessimist.

However, I also assume that despite the fact that things won’t go as planned, it’ll all work out anyway. So that makes me an optimist, right?

And the truth be known, I do spend so much time developing contingency plans on the assumption that things won’t work out, that I’m almost always pleasantly surprized that things usually go better than I had anticipated.

Does that make me optimistic or pessimistic?

Oh, I don’t know either.

Which brings me back to my original answer: Yes.
