It’s actually hard for me to smile genuinely when a camera is aimed at me, whether by myself or by another person. I almost always make some ridiculous face.
I don’t know why. It just happens.
However, there is hope of getting a genuine smile if the photographer is not me, if only because I usually start to laugh at myself after making the initial goofy face. The savvy photographer waits for the big grin and hits the shutter then.
The photo above is something to smile genuinely about. It’s a tiny fossil jaw. It’s amazing what you can find when you focus on the little things.
