P is for Pitch
I think ‘Pitch’ was among the more unexpected terms that I learned when starting to home brew.
I mean, I know how to pitch a tent. I can pitch an awesome fit. I know I’ll never pitch a baseball game. When I sing, it’s anything but perfect pitch. And I hate it when I’m trimming trees, and my fingers get stuck together by pitch.
In brewing, pitch is the term we use for adding yeast. You pitch the yeast, as soon as the brew has cooled down from the boiling it undergoes in brewing day.
You pitch yeast. If that yeast is no good (it happens), you can pitch again. You can save yeast from one batch and pitch it into another batch later.
Just be careful of that 90mph fastball. It makes a big splash.
