J is for Jug

J is for Jug

J

Finding a brewing-related word starting with the letter J was a bit of a challenge… until I came up with jug.

Jug is actually a great word, because it illustrates one of the great things about brewing. Sure, you can brew hundreds of gallons at once, but you can also just brew one gallon at a time in an ordinary glass jug.

The vessels in which we brew can be any size and made of plastic or glass. Plastic brewing buckets are common for the beginning home brewer.

I have a fleet of five one-gallon jugs I use for experiments. A one gallon batch gives me about 8 bottles of beer, or enough mead to last me a year. It’s a great way to get started if you’re considering trying home brewing!

I’m participating in the April A to Z Blogging Challenge. The goal is to write a post prompted by a letter of the alphabet on each day of April (except Sunday). My theme this year is brewing. Visit my other A to Z posts by clicking here.
