We went as a family to the Sterling Renaissance Festival today. A bit of a ‘last blast’ before I head out to points West for field work in the morning.
We all got in costume, though somehow, we didn’t manage to get a portrait of all three of us together. Oh well.

We went inside and shopped about. I decided to get fitted for a fancy-schmancy pair of period boots.

We did all the usual faire things, similar to all the other times we’ve been to the faire, so we didn’t take too many photos of ‘the usual.’ You can see photos from past visits to Sterling on my Flickr page here.
The thing we did a little differently is that we handed the camera to the boy for a while. I’ve mentioned before that our son, who is on the Autism spectrum, has a peculiar eye for photography. Here are some highlights of what he photographed today. I don’t even know where he saw half these things, but many made me gasp when I saw the photos.
This photos are uncropped and not retouched in any way.

And while he was at it, he snapped a couple of photos of his father and I.

Once again, we were completely floored by the photos he took. I hope you enjoyed them as well.

We are going to the festival in August. My son is so excited he is counting down the days. I have never been to Sterling but it looks like a blast.

Those are amazing photos.
I let my 5 year old (also on the spectrum) play with my camera sometimes. A year ago he only took pictures of his feet. Now I think he finally gets how to hold the camera up and have something in the little window before he presses the button. His last few were pretty good.
So glad we have digital cameras now so we don’t waste a ton of money letting them explore and learn.
