I started thinking about this more than a year ago, and the urgency has been growing. A couple of weeks ago, I finally decided to act.
When I first started pondering, it was purely my vanity. The wish to ‘look the part.’ Then it became a practical consideration. And now almost necessity.
I wanted to be free of eye glasses.
For one thing, I enjoy period costuming, with special love for 14th century Europe. Eyeglasses really aren’t typical 14th century attire. I’ve wanted to see directly what I might have looked like in medieval times.
The final straw(s) has been wanting to wear a mask for swordplay and having to choose between a mask that’s a little too big so it’ll fit over my glasses, or I wear a properly fitting mask, but be blind. It’s a bit of a safety issue either way.
So now I have a pair of trial contacts. They’re not quite right, so I’m going to try something else… until I find the right contacts.
In the meantime, I can experience clear vision while wearing a properly fitting fencing mask. And I can enjoy snazzy dark glasses, and the simple thrill of not having my glasses fall off while working out. Pretty awesome.
