The Sentence – Old Skool

Today’s Kickin’ it Old Skool Blog-a-Thon is supposed to be easy:

We’re making it easy today! Share one sentence from a book.
Okay not quite that easy.
Grab the third book in on your top shelf of books.
Share the first sentence.

It’s not that easy for me. I’m a bibliophile, as is my husband. We have books all over the place. I’ve written about the dangers of bibliophiles marrying here.

We have a few books!

I’m sitting in my bedroom right now and am surrounded by books.

And of course, none of these really have a ‘top shelf.’ Well, maybe the one behind the writing chair. The third book there is this:

In the bin directly beside the bed, the third book is this:

In the pile on top of the night stand, the third book is this:

And at the foot of the bed, the third book in is this:

I would point out that the first books, and most accessible ones, throughout the room all share a common theme:

And I haven’t even gone to the parts of the house one might consider a library, yet! Photos of those shelves were shown in that earlier blog post.

Notice, however, that there are no geology or paleontology books in the bedroom. There are very few in the house, actually. That’s work. Such books are related to my career. Those books are all in my office – which is equally over-full of books. So if this challenge popped up during the work week, my response would be very, very different!

So what to choose? I’ll go with the blacksmithing book, since it’s grabbable from bed. Someday, I’d like to set up a forge and learn some smithing. I need to retire first, methinks.
