National Blog Posting Month – May 2013 – Comfort
Prompt – Tell us about a time when a friend comforted you in the past. What did he/she do that made a difference?
——
Y’know, most of the time when I need comfort, it’s because something has happened over which I have no control. No one else has or had control either. It just happened, whatever it was.
Thus, doing something, in the sense of committing some manner of act, isn’t going to change anything. There’s nothing I can do and nothing anyone else can do either.
At those times, the best comfort is to just simply be there. The best thing anyone has ever done when I needed comfort is to be there. By being there I don’t necessarily mean being in the same space and staring helplessly at me. I mean, just being instantly available to talk, or touch even.
Words don’t need to be spoken.
